Racing at the Somerton Yacht Club
C/- PO Box 7022, Hutt Street SA 5000

Club Info: The Club has traditionally focused on events for the Funboard Class, which evolved into the Raceboard and Formula-42 classes in recent years.

The Club has a strong background in course racing and marathons for longboards. However, most of the members also enjoy a good blast on a shortboard, so the Club caters for shortboard sailors with the Formula 42 class for course racing (choose between a long board and/or shortboard and up to 4 sails). For the adventurous, the Club runs several marathons including the infamous Delfin Island Classic.

The affiliation of the Club with the Somerton Yacht Club means that we have a great "home base" in a friendly environment, and sailors can enjoy a few creature comforts and socialising after sailing. The Somerton Yacht Club has a reputation as the friendliest and least formal Club on the coast, and is the cheapest to join by a long shot. It is fairly central for most sailors, and the conditions on the water are as good as anywhere.

Normal Club racing, as indicated in this guide, will consist of Formula 42 racing, but with an emphasis on providing sailors with what they want. If the wind really kicks in, then slalom racing or free sailing may be the order of the day. Once a month, we finish the day with a BBQ. This season, the races will be short and close to shore to really fine tune those close racing skills for experts, and provide just the right challenge for new-comers.

Membership: All that is required is that you join Windsurfing SA. To race regularly at Somerton you may also be required to join the Somerton Yacht Club.
